The Dallas shootings will cloud US President Barack Obama’s trip to Spain, scheduled for this weekend.
No US president has ever stopped there, even though the base has been operating for the last 63 years.
Obama’s agenda includes one final stop in Madrid for meetings with King Felipe VI, acting prime minister Mariano Rajoy and several members of the opposition.
Obama will land in Seville on Saturday night, visit the Andalusian capital, then stop at the US military base of Rota, home to 2,846 US military personnel and 2,610 relatives.
