Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he was meeting with the National Rifle Association (NRA) to discuss new restrictions on firearms, thus breaking away from his party’s line on gun control.
“I will be meeting with the NRA, who has endorsed me, about not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no-fly list, to buy guns,” Trump said on Twitter.
“If Con Man Don can convince the NRA to move forward on this, God bless him,” New York Senator Joe Crowley, a Democrat, said on Wednesday.
It also shows that he can meet with one of the most powerful gun lobbies even though he is defending a policy that the group has already rejected.
The NRA supports a ban on gun sales to terrorists but says that it is important to establish protection for Americans who have been included on the no-fly list by mistake.
