Obama trip to Cuba: Obama defends democracy in Havana speech to Cuban nation

“The future of Cuba must be in the hands of the Cubans,” he said in Spanish.
When Obama talked about democracy, the US delegation clapped while most of the hall remained silentBut the US president wanted above all to speak to the Cuban people, who were following the speech on television.
“Creo en el pueblo cubano [I believe in the Cuban people],” said Obama in Spanish.
“I have come here to bury the last remnant of the Cold War in the Americas,” began Obama.
And to Cuban authorities, his words were a minor problem compared with the benefits of opening up to their powerful neighbor to the north.
